Large Hadron Collider

I just find that quantum physics are getting more and more entertaining. Here is one of the related stuff: The Large Hadron Collider. The basic idea of this machine is to accelerate protons to a speed of 99.999% of the speed of light and makes them collide, in order to understand the Big Bang Theory. This video may explain even better.

Computer Virus That Destroy Sector Zero????

Hey, I am receiving more and more separate "warnings" from "reputable" sources that claim there is or will be a devastating computer virus that destroy the Sector Zero of our harddisk. Here's are the thing that I should point out:

Disclaimer: I shall not copy the original statements from those emails to avoid plagiarism. (Oh no! Too much EG1471 - English Module).

  1. "Please forward this email to all on your contact list." at the very beginning.
What the hell?! Even haven't started to inform you what's going on and have already ask us to pass this on? What kind of warning is this?

  2. "McAfee has discovered this virus yesterday and has announced that this is the most destructive virus ever."
I don't know why, McAfee (sometimes Microsoft) seems to be one of the favorite companies for hoaxers to claim their stand. Besides, they prefer to use "yesterday" to keep everybody frightened. Furthermore, I don't think any anti-virus company (not only McAfee, I said any) is willing to announce such "danger" to kill their own business, UNLESS they have already had a cure for it. If that is the case, then no matter how devastating the virus is (assuming the 0.0000......000001% of possibility does really happen), there IS a cure; do update your anti-virus software then.

  3. "This virus destroys the Sector Zero of your harddisk, and thus your harddisk."
The first thing to mention is: The ways to "destroy" whatever of your harddisk include smack it with a hammer, go on top of any skycrapper and drop your harddisk to the surface of the Earth and throw it into flame. It may not be able to destroy your harddisk by the mean of software. In addition, even though it overwrites the Sector Zero, send your harddisk for data recovery, they can usually give you a satisfactory service.

  4. "CNN has announced the severeness of this virus and has given a high level warning."
CNN - Another all time favorite to streghten their claims. Try to search for it at www.cnn.com yourself and you will know the truth.

  5. "Hence DON'T open any email with the title '.....' " -- '.....' denotes any fancy title that they can think of.
Okay, it seems like a kind warning that helps us. But it would be more practical to:
    • Get a piece of good anti-virus software
    • Be smart to analyse any attachment that you receive
    • Check these websites if any claim is pointed to
      • McAfee here
      • Symantec here
      • And more... just google ^_^
    • Stop sending this kind of emails. Free up more bandwidth for other purposes.

  6. "PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS!!!" at the very bottom.
    • An usual reminder for a typical hoax.
    • A stupid way for it to be recognized as nonsense.
That's it, be smart! ^_^

Turning Off Laptop Display Manually

Just found a quite useful software lately - "Turn Off LCD". If you want to listen to music, or to have your downloads to continue while you are sleeping, without leaving the annoying LCD on in both cases, this is the software you need. Turning off your LCD display just by a double click, you don't need to wait for a certain period of time for your LCD to close(sometime it won't due to certain applications that are running). So be sure to have it in your laptop! No installation is required. Virus free, adware free, spyware free, everything's free!

Sigh....

*Sigh*......

What a wasted blog space again..... Well I don't think there's not because nothing for me to write, most probably it's no any free time for me to write...

Well, MLE term test at 4 o'clock later, but have no idea what to prepare anymore. Having a weird feeling: "Still don't know anything about MLE, but don't know what else to prepare...". Weird...

Since there's some time for me, then this entry will help me to spend the time.

9th September 2008 (TUES)

Jia Qing (Nurdiyantho) had booked my morning time to have a match of badminton. It's somehow very weird though, when I asked whether to have Ying Chieh and Wern Fei to join us, the answer is "no!". It's ok, but somehow the badminton court in PGP was used for some occasion at the time we went there. No where to go, and we ended up in my room. After a while I heard somebody's knocking the door of my clustermate's room, which next to mine. It's quite weird to have someone to knock someone's door early in the morning. Thought RA or some officials, I had my way to open the door. But Jia Qing stopped me! My god! Why he wanted to do so??? Was there any problem for me to open the door???

Anyway, he opened the door slowly and my goodness! I saw two familiar faces in front of me, with some thing flashing down there! Ying Chieh and Wern Fei were carrying a birthday cake! Surprised! Well, I don't know what's the expression on my face that time, but Ying Chieh said it's funny.... After that we carry on the standard procedure after birthday cake is shown. Haha, still never expect such an astounding scenario... Quite a nice memory.. It's really a happy day! Thanks ya!

12th - 14th September 2008 (FRI - SUN)

RECORD BROKEN! Imagine to stay awake actively for 41 hours! Woke up at 7.30am on 12th. As usual, attended PC1432 lecture on 9am and EG1108 tutorial on 10am, and hanged out around the school for few hours before 5pm, nothing special. The real thing started at 5.30pm! Contrast 2008, the annual 24 hours game design competition, meaning that we have to complete a playable game within 24 hours! Okay, five thirty, had some briefing, some waiting, and waiting again.... Finally it's 7.30pm, the game started! Brainstormed for some idea that stick to environment, and also those weird themes. "Black and White", "Day and Night", "Many and Few", "Dead and Alive", "Fast and Slow", these are some themes that we have to choose, noticed something? Okay, enough brainstorm, the judges arrived and we need to present the idea to them. You would need to pray for that, if they says your idea is completely a stupid idea, then you are out already, as you had wasted two hours to think for an stupid idea! You have to think for another one! Luckily, they didn't say that to me. So lets get the game started! Programming, programming and programming.... Why I am the only programmer in my team huh??? What the.... They are all artist.... Pity....

Okay... 24 hours passed. It's time to submit our "masterpiece". I wondered how I managed to program for 24 hours without sleep.... I think Ying Chieh's psychological support before the start of the miserable 24 hours is the greatest contributor. THANKS! By the way, I really felt my 24 hours are wasted to create such a lousy game.... Don't ask me for the game.... Authorised Personnel Only.

After submitting, a presentation was awaiting ahead. We were required to present to everybody, especially the judges(I participated this competition on their sake, who are them? Christopher Teksey from EA, Jean-Sebastien Mouret from UbiSoft, Allan Simonsen from Boomzap, Theo Sanders from Razer). Afraid, but still need to present. Thanks again for the encouragement, managed to finish the presentation quite firmly...

Now, the last mission, rush back to Malaysia for the Mid Autumn Festival and also my brother's birthday (also mine ^_^). It's 9.30pm (perhaps?), waiting for bus and mrt to get to the Woodland Checkpoint. And reach home about 11.30pm (perhaps?). And slept at 12.30am.... 41 hours had gone....

Friday....

It's really dramatic today. I just do not know why, it seems like my schedule is fully packed for every Friday. My last Friday was packed with lecture, table tennis, lecture again, engin club welcome tea, continuously.

It's the same scenario today again. Computer forensic workshop registration at 8.30am, followed by lecture on 9am, and went back to the workshop again. I am totally regret. It's so exciting! They taught us how to crack a password, doing forensic in IT security, how to protect ourselves against hackers.... But somehow I just learned the last part, I should skip the physics lecture...

Later went to the Central Library, hoped for some efforts here would help me to finish the tutorial questions faster. Nevertheless, who knows the IQ question(as in the previous entry) has taken a hour from me. No more time already, proceeded to LT7 for the boring EG1108 lecture, almost slept there, but the guy beside me was sleeping all the way until the break.

Finally, 6pm, lecture ended. Somehow unlucky enough, a downpour outside, made me have to take an extraordinary long route to get myself to be at the Central Library bus stop. It's 6pm sharp already, the welcome tea that I am eager to attend was supposed to start already. Suddenly a girl called me, it's Wern Fei, planned to go for the welcome tea too. We arrived PGP Function Room 5 at 6.30pm and somehow the welcome tea was just started, well, it's the tradition of Chinese...

Chinese Orchestra! I love it! The two performances by seniors are simply awesome! I swear I will be like them someday! Without hesitate, I signed up the Chinese Orchestra for $20 and prepared to take any challenges! (But I have over-budget already...)

Later on joined the Residence 5 Welcome Tea, the fun is just plain, knew more Vietnamese friends, worthy enough.

I wonder how's my schedule for next Friday?

Testing one, two, three....
Testing one, two, three....
Testing MIC one, two, three....

Huh? What the hell? I thought I am testing a MIC? Okay... Wrong testing approaches...

The first entry of any of my blog is always pointless... It's a habit, please forgive me...

Entries with real contents are coming soon!
